Year ender
Hello and Merry Christmas - hope you all had a good one. I can’t believe it’s nearly New Year’s Eve already! That is absolutely nuts.
Right now we’re putting the final touches to our brand new full length record. The album is recorded - it has 13 new songs - and we’ve seen the front cover. We’re nearly there and we’re looking at a Spring release. Right...

I Was Born (Menzingers cover)
I Was Born (The Menzingers) by Great Cynics
I like The Menzingers. They’re nice guys. Two nights ago their van was smashed into after their show in Manchester; they lost their passports, merch money and the stuff you like to keep with you in a backpack when you’re travelling around the world.
Banquet Records set up a donation page on their website and lots of people, blogs and...

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you all.
Five days ago we finished a tour with Crazy Arm and Smokey Bastard. It ended with Darren Johns of the ‘Arm replenishing his drum skills and joining our band for the night. Needless to say, it was a moment I’d been waiting for.
We’ve just announced a tour with Crazy Arm (yeah, we just can’t get enough) and Apologies, I Have None. They are two...

“Great Cynics went into Maida Vale in North West London to record a few of their own songs and a cover of Alkaline Trio’s ‘Every Thug Needs A Lady’ live for Mike Davies’ BBC Radio 1 show. We went along with a camera and hung out for the day. Great Cynics is Giles Bidder, Bob Barrett and Iona Cairns. J Pepper played hammond organ and Mike & Adam from The...

RVIVR show this Sunday, wedding hitchers
This is the first chance in three weeks I’ve had to sit down and be able to think in the quiet. And it feels fucking brilliant.
We ended our most recent UK tour last Thursday with a show at The Barfly, Camden with Crazy Arm and Apologies, I Have None. Playing with those two bands was the perfect way to end the tour. They’re both utterly inspiring on different levels and it’s a...

September UK tour, New EP
Earlier this week we went down to Peter Miles’ studio in Devon to record three songs, all of which have been on releases when I was playing acoustic. Peter was on holiday, so we recorded the EP with James Bragg, his engineer (unfortunately no relation to Billy) in approximately 16 hours.
We recorded the same way we did the album; guitar and drums recorded together in the same massive...

House shows, London with Sharks
Cheers to all who came to the house shows we played last week. Each of them was really special and we’ll be doing a similar sort of tour in the future, with more shows and a bit more notice.
See some photos here - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.209505169103407.60260.175460022507922
Next Wednesday we’re playing with Sharks and Spy Catcher at The Social in London. See you...
House shows plus extra show this week
Tomorrow we pick up a PA, pick up cabs and head to Derby for the first house show of the week. The idea of a stint of house shows is an experiment to see if we can cut out the middle man and just set up parties around the country for people just like us who want to go to see bands and have a party for a minimal price. If you wanna make it to one of the dates, get in touch. Because of limited space...
Tour blog diaries and August house shows

We’ve just got back from a UK tour with The Living Daylights. We did an almost-complete circle of the UK and it was a blast. You can read part one of a two part tour diary I wrote about it here and photo blog...

LP delays (dos) and Cider For Breakfast...
Hey. So when the LP jackets were printed we hadn’t yet received an email from someone threatening to sue us unless we didn’t change our name, so they were printed with ‘Cynics’ where you now see the ‘Great Cynics’. We ordered white on transparent stickers to add the extra word and although the measurements worked nicely, the light shone through the white ink so...
VINYL DELAYS
Sorry to everyone who pre-ordered Don’t Need Much on LP from Banquet Records and hasn’t received it yet. The LP jackets were printed before we changed our name so we’re making them right as soon as we can. They should be posted out to you late next week. As soon as we know what what’s happening, so will you.
For the fellow record nerds, the pressing info the LP is 250...
